Gorée Island
A place that stirs the soul and captivates
Behind its pastel-colored façades and quiet alleys, Gorée still bears the marks of a dark chapter in History. This island of memory, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most poignant places in Senegal. From the 15th to the 19th century, Gorée was the largest slave-trading centre on the African coast.
Visitors can explore the House of Slaves and its “Door of No Return”, a universal symbol of the suffering and courage of the enslaved peoples. The visit continues with the discovery of the Castle and its fortifications, old colonial houses, and flower-filled streets that contrast with the solemnity of the site. More than just an excursion, this experience is a moment of deep reflection and emotion, where every stone seems to carry a universal message of peace and reconciliation.
